1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy applies to the Swiss Guide mobile application (“App”), available on iOS and Android. If you are looking for the privacy policy that governs the Swiss Guide website, please visit www.swissguide.app/privacy. The App is operated by InfinitX KLG, Wolfbühlstrasse 34b, 8408 Winterthur, Switzerland, UID: CHE-194.754.696, reachable at support@swissguide.app.
We are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect when you use the App, why we collect it, how it is used, and what rights you have. We process your data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By downloading or using the App, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

3. Data We Collect
3.1 Account Data
When you create an account, we collect your name and username, email address, country of origin, and, if used during registration, your Creator or Influencer Code.
3.2 User Content
If you submit reviews or text via the App, or if profile pictures or uploaded images are enabled, we store this content in connection with your account.
3.3 Usage Data
We collect data about how you interact with the App, including views, clicks, saved places, and feature usage, as well as aggregated data about trending content and in-app activity patterns. This data is used to personalise your experience and improve the App.
3.4 Device and Technical Data
We collect technical information about your device including your IP address, device type, operating system, app version, and crash reports or error logs. This data is used to ensure the App functions correctly and to diagnose technical issues.
3.5 Location Data
Location data is an optional feature. It is processed only when you actively enable location access in your device settings. We use location data solely to calculate and display distances to nearby places and to render map content via our mapping provider, Mapbox Inc. Location data is not permanently stored on our servers and can be disabled at any time via your device settings.
3.6 Analytics Data
We use Firebase Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to collect aggregated, anonymised data about App usage and performance. This data helps us understand how the App is used and identify areas for improvement. No individual profiling for advertising purposes takes place.
3.7 Advertising and Partner Tracking Data
We track ad impressions and interactions within the App, meaning we record whether an ad was displayed to you and whether you tapped it. This data is shared with advertising partners in aggregated, anonymised form only. We do not sell your personal data to third parties, and third parties do not receive personal data for their own marketing purposes.
3.8 Creator Code and Referral Data
If you register using a Creator or Influencer Code, we record the code used in order to attribute the registration to the relevant creator and calculate any applicable commission. This attribution is permanent. The data processed for this purpose includes your registration timestamp, subscription status, and the associated Creator Code. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in operating a fair and transparent referral system.
3.9 Push Notification Data
If you enable push notifications, we store a device token associated with your account in order to deliver notifications. We may send push notifications for the following purposes: new places and spots added to the App; new Travel Tips published; new messages in the Broadcast Channel; and new chat messages for Premium Plus subscribers. You can withdraw consent for push notifications at any time via your device settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect notifications already sent.
3.10 Broadcast Channel Data
If you subscribe to the Broadcast Channel, we process your device token or account identifier to deliver editorial and informational content. This may include announcements of new app content, seasonal travel recommendations, Travel Tips, and potentially sponsored or promotional content in the future. We reserve the right to include such content and will update this policy accordingly. You may unsubscribe from the Broadcast Channel at any time.
3.11 Chat Message Data
Premium Plus subscribers have access to a direct chat feature for personalised travel advice. Chat messages are stored for the duration of your account and for a further period of three years thereafter for operational and quality assurance purposes. Messages may be reviewed by Swiss Guide staff in order to provide accurate responses and improve the service. Chat data is not shared with third parties and is not used for advertising purposes.
3.12 Offline Mode Data
To enable offline functionality, certain data is stored locally on your device, including cached places, maps, saved favourites, Travel Tips content, and your subscription status. This data is stored on your device only and is not transmitted to our servers unless you are connected.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use the data collected through the App to provide and operate the App and its features; to personalise content and recommendations based on your activity; to enable location-based features and map rendering where you have given consent; to improve App performance and develop new features; to display and measure advertising placements; to attribute Creator Codes and calculate referral commissions; to detect and prevent fraud and abuse of the referral system; to send push notifications where you have given consent; to operate the Broadcast Channel and deliver editorial and potentially promotional content; to provide personalised travel assistance via the Premium Plus chat feature; to ensure the security of the App and comply with legal obligations; and to communicate with you regarding your account or support requests.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your data on the following legal bases. Contract performance: processing necessary to provide the App and its features, including the chat service and Broadcast Channel (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Consent: for optional features such as location access, analytics, push notifications, and the Broadcast Channel (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) – you may withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing. Legitimate interests: for improving performance, ensuring security, preventing fraud, and operating the referral system (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), where our interests do not override your fundamental rights.
6. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with the following service providers solely to operate the App: Firebase (Google LLC) for analytics, crash reporting, and push notification delivery; Mapbox Inc. for map rendering and location-based services, where your device location or IP address may be transmitted to Mapbox servers to display maps and calculate distances; Apple App Store and Google Play Store for app distribution and in-app purchase processing; advertising partners who receive only anonymised, aggregated performance metrics; and legal or regulatory authorities where required by applicable law. All third-party providers are contractually bound to process your data only according to our instructions and in compliance with applicable data protection law.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only as long as necessary. Account data is retained for the duration of your account and deleted within 30 days of account deletion. Chat messages are retained for the duration of your account plus three years for operational and quality assurance purposes. Creator Code and referral data is retained for the duration of the creator relationship plus three years for accounting purposes. Analytics data is retained in aggregated, anonymised form for up to 24 months. Location data is processed in real time only and not stored permanently. Push notification tokens are retained until you withdraw consent or delete your account.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data: the right of access to request a copy of the data we hold about you; the right to rectification of inaccurate data; the right to erasure (the ‘right to be forgotten’); the right to restriction of processing; the right to data portability; the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing; and the right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@swissguide.app. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) at www.edoeb.admin.ch, or, if you are in the EU, with your local supervisory authority.
9. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data, including encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews. Chat messages are stored in encrypted form. If you suspect a security incident affecting your account or personal data, please contact us immediately at support@swissguide.app.
10. Children
Swiss Guide is intended for users aged 16 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from persons under 16. If we become aware that a user is under 16, we will suspend or delete the account and associated data without undue delay. Parents or guardians who believe their child has registered may contact us at support@swissguide.app.
11. International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers, including Firebase (Google LLC) and Mapbox Inc., may process data outside Switzerland or the EEA. Where this occurs, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission or equivalent Swiss mechanisms, so that your data is protected to an equivalent standard.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our App or applicable law. Material changes – including any future introduction of advertising content in the Broadcast Channel – will be communicated via the App or email at least 14 days before taking effect. The current version is always available at www.swissguide.app/app-privacy.
