Lake Pfäffikon lies in the Zurich Highlands at around 537 metres and is one of the largest natural lakes in the canton of Zurich. Its quiet shores, extensive reedbeds and the Kempten moorland protection area make it an important nature reserve and local recreation area. The lake forms part of the Pfäffikersee Nature Reserve and is home to numerous water birds and rare plant species.
A circular walking trail takes around 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. The lakeshore is largely undeveloped and is particularly picturesque in spring and autumn. In Pfäffikon and Auslikon there are bathing spots with boat hire and restaurants directly on the water.
Lake Pfäffikon is well connected by S-Bahn: from Zurich HB, the S14 reaches Pfäffikon ZH in around 30 minutes. By car, the A53 leads into the Zurich Highlands; parking is available in Pfäffikon and Auslikon.
