Morcote on the southern shore of Lake Lugano is regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland – a title it has also officially won in various national competitions. The terraced arcaded houses, the medieval bell tower of Santa Maria del Sasso and the cypress-lined stairways descending to the lake create a scene of almost unreal beauty.

The village has preserved its authentic character despite its fame: narrow lanes, old cobblestones and direct views of the lake make Morcote ideal for quiet walks, a stop at one of its few restaurants and boat trips on Lake Lugano. The Parco Scherrer – an exotic garden with sculptures and buildings from around the world – is a special attraction right in the village.

Morcote is reachable by boat from Lugano in around 50 minutes. By PostBus, the journey from Lugano takes around 35 minutes. By car, the village is accessible via the cantonal road along the southern shore of Lake Lugano; parking in the village is limited.
