The Gorges du Durnand lie in Bovernier in Valais and are one of Europe's most spectacular rock canyons at approximately 1 kilometre in length – ranking among Europe's ten most beautiful gorges. The Durnand waterfalls (14 individual waterfalls) crash down with tremendous force, with water splashing and swirling in a fantastic sequence. The original walking galleries from 1877 were completely renovated in 1987 and expanded with steel walkways and two suspension bridges – where the rock could no longer support the gallery, two suspension bridges were installed.

The hiking path follows an idyllic trail bordered by wild blueberries and strawberries, which suddenly transforms into a series of suspended wooden walkways and 330 steps. The route with fantastic views takes approximately 1 hour round trip and is also suitable for families. In the upper part you can return via a forest path. The canyons are considered a spectacular natural attraction, though visitors should exercise caution on steep terrain and heights.

The Gorges du Durnand are easily accessible from Martigny: Take the train to Bovernier railway station (stop on request), from where it's a short walk up. By car, drive from Martigny towards Le Châble. Opening hours 2026: May-October daily, 9:00-18:00 (depending on weather conditions). Parking is available in Bovernier.
