Zermatt is the car-free mountain village at the foot of the Matterhorn and one of the most visited destinations in the Swiss Alps. Sitting at roughly 1'600 metres, it blends alpine heritage with international appeal: timber chalets, cobbled lanes and a lively village centre make up a resort that stays open year-round.

Zermatt provides access to one of the largest ski areas in the Alps, extending up to the Klein Matterhorn glacier. In summer it becomes a hiking paradise with over 400 kilometres of marked trails, including the classic ascent to the Hörnlihütte. The Matterhorn Museum in the village documents the history of the first ascent and the lives of the mountain guides. Restaurants, hotels and shops of every category are concentrated in the village centre.

Zermatt is only accessible by train. The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn runs regularly from Visp, with a journey time of around one hour. Visitors arriving by car park in Täsch – paid parking is available directly at the station – and continue by shuttle train (approximately 12 minutes).
