The Stäubifall on the Urnerboden is one of the most impressive free-falling waterfalls in central Switzerland, plunging in a single veil over 100 metres almost vertically down a cliff face. The name says it all: the fall atomises into fine clouds of spray on impact, spreading far across the surroundings in a headwind. It sits idyllically at the edge of the broad alpine valley of the Urnerboden.
The Urnerboden – Switzerland's largest alp area – is filled with cattle from May to October and offers one of the finest images of Swiss alpine farming. The waterfall is reachable from the valley floor on foot in just a few minutes. It makes an ideal detour on the drive over the Klausen Pass or as a standalone destination for a day trip from Lucerne or Zurich.
The Urnerboden and Stäubifall are accessible seasonally by PostBus from Linthal (Glarus) or by car via the Klausen Pass (open approximately May to October) from Altdorf or Linthal.
