Arosa sits in a high valley at around 1'800 metres, surrounded by forested slopes and cut off from the outside world – the road to Arosa passes through a narrow, imposing gorge, and arriving always feels like opening a sealed mountain world. The village has a particular stillness that is maintained even in the busiest winter season.

The Arosa Lenzerheide ski area has become one of Switzerland's largest since its connection with Lenzerheide. In summer the area is known for its bear park – the only bear park in the Swiss Alps – as well as extensive hikes to the Weisshorn and high-alpine lakes. The Schwellisee and the Lower Lake are popular relaxation spots in spring and summer.

Arosa is reachable by Rhaetian Railway from Chur in around 1 hour – the journey through the Schanfigg Gorge is itself an attraction. By car, take the narrow mountain road from Chur. Parking is available in the village; the road is open year-round.
