The Stazersee lies at around 1'809 metres in the Stazer Forest southeast of St. Moritz and is an idyllic mountain lake surrounded by one of the finest primeval Swiss stone pine and larch forests in the Alps. The Stazer Forest is a nature reserve and one of the largest contiguous mountain pine forests in Graubünden – a place of calm away from the bustle of St. Moritz.
A flat circular trail around the lake takes around 45 minutes and is suitable for all who can walk. In autumn, when the larches turn luminous gold, the atmosphere at the Stazersee is among the most striking that the Engadine autumn landscape has to offer. The lake is also accessible in winter; the circular trail is partly used as a winter walking route.
From St. Moritz Bad, the Stazersee is reachable on foot in around 40 minutes. St. Moritz is reachable by Rhaetian Railway from Chur in around 2 hours. Parking in St. Moritz; the forest itself is car-free.
