The Lago di Saoseo lies at around 2'030 metres in the Val di Campo – a quiet side valley of the Puschlav (Val Poschiavo) – and is one of the most beautiful and least known mountain lakes in the canton of Graubünden. The water glows in a deep turquoise, surrounded by larch forest, rocks and a final view of the peaks of the Bernina group.
The approach to the lake follows a hiking trail from the Rifugio Saoseo in the Val di Campo and takes around 30 minutes. The area around the lake is known for its botanical diversity and is part of the Val da Camp nature reserve. A full day's walking can be combined with the ascent to the Fuorcla da Saoseo, a high-alpine pass with views into the Livigno valley.
From Poschiavo in the Puschlav, the Val di Campo is reachable by PostBus in around 20 minutes. Poschiavo is on the Bernina Railway line and reachable from St. Moritz in around 1.5 hours. By car, drive from Poschiavo up into the valley; parking is available at the Sfazù.
