Arth lies at the southern end of Lake Zug in the canton of Schwyz and is known as the valley station of the Arth-Rigi Railway – the second historic rack railway to the Rigi (1875), approaching the summit from the southern side. The small town has a compact historic centre with the baroque Parish Church of St. George and a peaceful setting between lakes and mountains.

The Arth-Rigi Railway runs from Arth-Goldau to the Rigi Kulm and offers views of Lake Zug and the Schwyz mountain range. Arth is also the starting point for hikes to the Wildspitz – the highest summit in the canton of Schwyz – and into the surrounding Schwyz pre-Alps. The Lake Zug shoreline at Arth invites summer bathing.

Arth is on the railway line and reachable by S-Bahn from Zurich (via Zug) in around 40 minutes. The Arth-Rigi Railway connects Arth-Goldau with the Rigi Kulm. By car, take the A4 motorway, Arth-Goldau exit. Arth-Rigi Railway tickets: rigi.ch
