The Fronalpstock at 1'922 metres in the canton of Schwyz offers one of the most surprising panoramic views in central Switzerland: the summit towers directly above Stoos and Lake Lucerne and provides a 360° panorama over four lakes simultaneously – Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug, Lake Lauerz and the Sihlsee – as well as the Uri, Schwyz and Glarus mountain worlds.
The ascent to the Fronalpstock from Stoos takes around 1 to 1.5 hours on a well-marked path. The summit is also reachable in winter in snow-reliable conditions. The combined journey on the world's steepest funicular – the Stoosbahn – and an ascent of the Fronalpstock is one of the most rewarding day excursions in inner Switzerland.
The Fronalpstock is reachable on foot from Stoos. Stoos is accessible by Stoosbahn from Schwyz/Morschach. Schwyz is reachable by train from Zurich in around 50 minutes. Stoosbahn tickets: stoos.ch
