Lake Lucerne is Switzerland's most celebrated and most romantic lake – four cantons (Lucerne, Schwyz, Uri, Nidwalden) share its winding shoreline, and centuries of Confederation history have given its banks a special aura. Boat travel on Lake Lucerne is a classic Swiss experience: paddle steamers and modern scheduled vessels connect Lucerne, Weggis, Vitznau, Brunnen, Flüelen, Bauen and other places. The lake is surrounded by mountains directly served by cable cars to the Pilatus, Rigi, Stanserhorn and Bürgenstock.
