The Kapellbrücke is the landmark of Lucerne and the oldest surviving wooden bridge in Europe – built around 1365, it spans the Reuss and connects the old town with the newer quarter. The bridge is decorated with 112 historic triangular paintings from the 17th century depicting scenes from Lucerne and Swiss history. Despite the devastating fire of 1993, the bridge was restored.

Together with the neighbouring Water Tower, the Kapellbrücke forms Switzerland's most iconic cityscape. The Reuss bridge sits in the heart of Lucerne's old town, surrounded by historic buildings, restaurants and the Jesuit Church. A stroll across the bridge at sunset, when the warm light settles over the rooftops, is one of Switzerland's finest urban moments.

The Kapellbrücke is in the centre of Lucerne and reachable on foot from Lucerne station in around 5 minutes. Lucerne is accessible by train from Zurich in around 50 minutes, from Basel in around 1 hour and from Bern in around 1 hour.
