Lucerne on Lake Lucerne is the cultural capital of central Switzerland and one of Switzerland's most beloved cities. The old town with the Kapellbrücke, the Water Tower, the painted house facades and the Jesuit College is an ensemble of exceptional character. Lucerne uniquely combines urban vibrancy with an alpine backdrop.

The Swiss Museum of Transport – the country's most visited museum – and the Lucerne Art Museum are the city's major cultural institutions. The lakeside promenade and boat trips on Lake Lucerne are classic Lucerne experiences. In summer the prestigious Lucerne Festival takes place. From Lucerne, the Pilatus, Rigi, Titlis and other mountain destinations of central Switzerland are reachable in under an hour.

Lucerne is accessible by train from Zurich in around 50 minutes, from Bern in around 1 hour and from Basel in around 1 hour. By car, take the A2 or A14 motorway. Parking in the city centre is limited and charged; car parks are available at the station.
