The Stoosbahn is the world's steepest funicular – with a maximum gradient of 110 percent it surpasses even the steepest mountain railways in the Alps. Opened in 2017, the railway connects Schlattli near Morschach in the canton of Schwyz with the car-free mountain village of Stoos in 4 minutes. The cabins are equipped with a rotating mechanism that keeps the floor permanently horizontal.

The ride itself is an experience: the cabins do not tilt, even though the railway climbs a slope steeper than a normal staircase. The view from the cabin of Lake Lucerne and the Uri mountain range during the journey ranks among the most striking things a Swiss cable car ride has to offer. The railway is a prime example of modern Swiss engineering.

The Stoosbahn departs from Schlattli near Morschach. Morschach is accessible by PostBus from Brunnen (station) in around 10 minutes. Brunnen is reachable by train from Zurich in around 50 minutes. Tickets: stoos.ch
