The Furka Pass crosses at 2'429 metres, linking the Goms in Valais with the Urseren Valley in Uri and ranking among Switzerland's great alpine crossings. It gained worldwide recognition through the car chase in the James Bond film «Goldfinger» (1964) – the hairpin bends of the pass road remain a classic for motorcyclists and motoring enthusiasts. Directly below the summit lies the Rhône Glacier, the source of the Rhône.

From the Furka Pass, the view opens freely onto the Galenstock (3'586 m) and the surrounding peaks. The Belvédère Hotel – a historic mountain hotel right beside the glacier – is a well-known stopping point. The Rhône Glacier can be reached via a short path; in summer the glacier labyrinth, with its luminous blue ice passages, is open to visitors. The pass road is typically open from June to October.

The Furka Pass is reachable by car via cantonal roads from Gletsch (from the west) or Hospental (from the east). The Furka Steam Railway runs seasonally between Realp and Oberwald along the historic route and is an experience in its own right: furka.ch
