Grimentz is regarded as one of the finest mountain villages in Valais, its medieval core of blackened timber chalets and narrow lanes making an immediate impression. The village in the Val d'Anniviers has largely retained its authentic character despite tourism development and is protected as a heritage townscape. The old wine cellars and mazots – wooden storehouses raised on stone mushrooms – are a particularly distinctive feature of the traditional Valais village scene.

In winter, the Grimentz-Zinal cable car serves a modern ski area linked to St-Luc and Chandolin, forming part of the large Anniviers ski network. In summer, trails wind through the Val d'Anniviers to mountain lakes such as the Lac Blanc and into the neighbouring Zinal valley. The village is an ideal base for high-alpine tours in the Zermatt Alps.

From Sierre in the Rhône Valley, a regular PostBus serves the Val d'Anniviers to Grimentz, with a journey time of around 50 minutes. By car, Grimentz is reachable via the cantonal road from Sierre in a similar time. Parking is available in and around the village.
