In Val Müstair south of Tschierv lies one of the most hidden alpine waters of Switzerland – Lai da Rims at approximately 2,500 meters elevation. This lake is surrounded by wild romantic mountain slopes and relatively unknown, visited by far fewer tourists than its more famous neighbors. The pristine mountain landscape appears virtually untouched by human presence.

The hike to the lake is demanding and requires mountaineering experience and freedom from dizziness in places. The Umbrail Pass lies immediately nearby – a historically significant border crossing between Switzerland and Italy with roads sometimes adventurously steep. The lake itself lies in a wild amphitheater-shaped rock landscape.

Best visiting time is August and September when the higher passes are snow-free. This location is recommended exclusively for experienced mountain hikers. No infrastructure on site – absolute wilderness experience.
