The Oeschinensee is a well-known alpine mountain lake above the village of Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland. At around 1'600 metres, the lake sits in the Oeschinental, enclosed by the steep cliff faces and glaciated peaks of the Blüemlisalp Massif. The intensely turquoise water, created by fine mineral particles from the surrounding glaciers, combines with alpine meadows and forest to form a particularly striking landscape. The area belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch.

From Kandersteg, a gondola ascends to the upper station above the lake. From there the lake is reached via a trail of around 20 to 30 minutes. Several hiking routes circle the lake and the surrounding heights, with views of waterfalls, cliff faces and the peaks of the Bernese Alps. For the higher trails above the lake, sturdy footwear and a sure foot are essential, as the paths become steeper and more alpine. Popular activities include lakeside strolls, boat trips and hikes to viewpoints in the Oeschinental.

The gondola is typically closed for maintenance from early March to early May.
