The Lago Bianco – «white lake» – lies at around 2'234 metres directly at the Bernina Pass and is one of Switzerland's most distinctive high-altitude lakes. The intense turquoise-white of the water is created by fine mineral particles from the surrounding glacial meltwater and appears almost unreal in fine weather. Together with the neighbouring Lago Nero, the lake forms a unique image at the pass summit.

The lake is reachable on foot directly from the pass road and the Rhaetian Railway stop Ospizio Bernina. A short stroll along the shore is enough to experience the full effect of the turquoise water against the mountain backdrop. In winter the lake freezes and is occasionally used for skating. The Lago Bianco is a popular photographic subject and resting point on the Bernina Express journey.

The Lago Bianco is reachable by Rhaetian Railway (Bernina Express) from St. Moritz in around 30 minutes (stop Ospizio Bernina). By car, take the Bernina Pass road. Parking is available at the pass stop.
