The Blausee in the Kandertal is a small natural gem with crystal-clear, intensely blue water – fed by underground springs that give the lake its distinctive colour and a visibility of up to ten metres. The lake sits within an ancient fir forest and creates a quiet, almost fairy-tale atmosphere that makes for a refreshing contrast to larger tourist destinations.

A short circular trail of around 20 minutes winds around the lake and is suitable for families with young children. A salmon farm in the lake can be visited. The adjacent Blausee Resort offers a restaurant with lakeside terrace and further tourist facilities. In winter the place is a calm excursion destination, drawing its appeal from the stillness of snow and fir trees.

The Blausee sits on the cantonal road between Kandergrund and Kandersteg and is easily reached by car. By train, travel to Kandergrund (line BLS) and walk around 30 minutes from there. Parking is available at the Blausee entrance. Admission is charged: blausee.ch
