Männlichen at around 2'230 metres is a broad panoramic plateau between Grindelwald and Wengen, offering one of the Bernese Oberland's most popular summit views: Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and the sweeping valley below compose the classic image from here. The mountain station is the starting point for the celebrated Royal Walk – one of the most beautiful and straightforward hikes in the region.
The Royal Walk follows a narrow ridge from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg in around 1.5 to 2 hours – a high-level trail with constant panoramic views and barely any elevation change. In summer cows graze on the plateau; in winter Männlichen is part of the Grindelwald-Wengen ski area. For families, the plateau also offers a marmot discovery area.
Männlichen is reached by gondola from Grindelwald-Grund (around 30 minutes) or by cable car from Wengen. Grindelwald is accessible from Interlaken Ost by train. Tickets: jungfrau.ch
