Mürren is a car-free mountain village at around 1'638 metres and one of the most atmospheric alpine villages in Switzerland. Perched on a rocky ledge above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, it offers an unobstructed view of the Eiger-Mönch-Jungfrau trio. The village has no road access and is reached only by train or cable car – which gives it a special sense of remoteness.
In winter, Mürren forms part of the Schilthorn / Piz Gloria ski area, which extends to 2'970 metres. In summer the trails between Mürren, Gimmelwald and the Schilthorn are outstandingly rewarding. The village is known for its unspoilt alpine character without excessive commercialisation. Restaurants, hotels and accommodation focus on what matters – mountain panorama included.
From Lauterbrunnen, take the cable car up to Grütschalp, then the Lauterbrunnen–Mürren mountain railway to the village – total journey time around 35 minutes. Mürren can also be reached from Stechelberg by cable car via Gimmelwald. Lauterbrunnen is accessible from Interlaken Ost in 20 minutes.
