The St. Beatus Caves on the southern shore of Lake Thun are Switzerland's best-known show cave system, offering a developed circuit of over one kilometre through underground chambers with stalactites, stalagmites, waterfalls and lakes. The caves are named after the Celtic saint Beatus, who according to legend lived here in the 6th century.

The guided or self-guided circuit passes through galleries and chambers on different levels and gives insight into the geological formation of the limestone system. The temperature inside the caves is a constant 8°C – a jacket is advisable. Outside, the adjacent grounds include a viewpoint overlooking Lake Thun and a small wildlife enclosure.

The St. Beatus Caves are situated on the cantonal road between Interlaken and Thun on the southern lakeshore. By PostBus from Interlaken station the journey takes around 15 minutes.
