The Trift Bridge in the Trift area above Gadmen in the Haslital is one of the most spectacular suspension bridges in Switzerland: 170 metres long, suspended 100 metres above the void and set within a glacial landscape enclosed by rock and ice on three sides. Originally built in 2004 to provide access to the Trift Hut, the bridge has since become an attraction in its own right.

The approach to the Trift Bridge starts from Gadmen with a gondola, from whose station a roughly one-hour walk through wildly romantic terrain leads to the bridge. The path requires a sure foot and sturdy footwear. At the destination, a unique view opens over the Trift Glacier and the surrounding peaks of the Gadmer Dolomites. The bridge sways noticeably in wind – a head for heights is advisable.

The Trift Bridge is accessible from Gadmen, which is reachable by PostBus from Meiringen in around 25 minutes. By car, drive up the Haslital from Innertkirchen to Gadmen; parking is available at the gondola valley station. Gondola and hike: grimselwelt.ch
