Brunnen lies at the junction of Lake Lucerne and the Urnersee in the canton of Schwyz and is regarded as one of the most atmospheric viewpoints in central Switzerland. The small town is known for its lakeside promenade looking out over the Axenberg, the Rütli meadow and the dramatic entrance to the Urnersee. The setting has a romantic grandeur that inspired Goethe and other travellers.

Brunnen is an important hub for boat and PostBus connections to the surrounding places and mountain valleys. The Tell Chapel near Sisikon is reachable by boat in just a few minutes. The town has an active hotel and restaurant scene along the promenade. In summer, regular boats run to Lucerne, Flüelen and Beckenried.

Brunnen is on the S-Bahn line and reachable from Zurich in around 50 minutes. By car, take the A4 motorway, Brunnen exit. Parking is available by the lakeshore.
