Adelboden sits at the end of the Engstligental at around 1'353 metres and is one of the Bernese Oberland's best-known winter sports resorts. The village combines alpine character with an international ski circuit: the FIS World Cup races at the Chuenisbärgli draw tens of thousands of spectators each year and make Adelboden one of the most important alpine ski racing venues in the world.

Beyond the ski area, Adelboden is an excellent base for hikes to the Engstligen Falls, one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Bernese Oberland, and to surrounding summits such as the Bonderspitz and the Engstligenalp plateau. In summer the valley offers quiet walking in an intact mountain landscape. The village centre is charming and typically Bernese, with timber chalets and inns.

Adelboden is reachable by PostBus from Frutigen in around 25 minutes. Frutigen is accessible from Spiez by train in around 15 minutes. By car, drive from Frutigen up the Engstligental. Parking is available in the village.
