Ftan sits on a sunny plateau above Scuol in the Lower Engadine and is a quiet mountain village with an intact Romansh townscape and one of the region's finest panoramas: from Ftan, the view takes in the mountains of the Swiss National Park, the Inn river and the peaks of the Sesvenna Group opposite.

The village is known for its peaceful setting and the Ftan hiking area, which opens trails into the national park and to the Uina Gorge – one of the most remote and imposing gorges in Switzerland. In winter Ftan has its own ski slope and is part of the Scuol ski area. The village has its own school and a living village community – it is not purely a holiday resort.

Ftan is reachable by cable car from Scuol in around 10 minutes. Scuol is reachable by Rhaetian Railway from Chur in around 2 hours. By car, drive from Scuol up a small mountain road to Ftan.
