The Grimsel Pass at 2'165 metres connects the Haslital in the Bernese Oberland with the Goms in Valais and is the north-easternmost of the great Valais alpine crossings. The pass landscape is defined by the large Grimsel dams and the Grimselsee – a turquoise reservoir directly beside the pass road. The Grimselwelt with its reservoir trails and the Gelmersee is an extensive excursion destination.

From the Totensee at the summit – a small dark mountain lake – hiking trails lead to the Gärsthorn and into the surrounding high-altitude areas. The pass is the starting point for the Grimselwelt experience routes, which combine nature, engineering and energy production. In spring and summer the reservoirs present a unique image of water, rock and snow.

The Grimsel Pass is reachable by car from Innertkirchen or Meiringen in the Haslital, or from Gletsch in the Goms. The pass road is typically open from late May to October. By rail, travel to Meiringen (from Interlaken) and continue by PostBus. More about Grimselwelt: grimselwelt.ch
