The Landwasser Viaduct near Filisur is one of the most iconic railway structures in the world: the six-arch limestone viaduct of the Rhaetian Railway spans the Landwasser Valley at a height of 65 metres and leads directly into a rock tunnel – a masterpiece of engineering from 1902, inscribed since 2008 as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Rhaetian Railway.

The viaduct is part of the spectacular line from Thusis to St. Moritz – the Albula Line – and is regularly traversed by Rhaetian Railway trains, including the Glacier Express. A hiking trail below the viaduct allows the structure to be viewed from below. The best vantage point for a full view is on the opposite valley side above Filisur.

The Landwasser Viaduct is reachable on foot from Filisur in around 20 minutes. Filisur is on the Rhaetian Railway and accessible from Chur in around 50 minutes. Train tickets: rhb.ch
