The Niederhorn at 1'950 metres is the panoramic peak above Lake Thun and delivers a surprising, unobstructed view over the lake, the Bernese Pre-Alps and as far as the great summits of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The mountain is less well-known than its neighbours and therefore offers a relaxed alternative to the major tourist flows of the Jungfrau region.
From the summit plateau, trails lead in every direction: to Beatenberg, to Beatenbucht on the lake, and along the broad ridge towards the Hohgant. In summer, marmots and ibex can be spotted on the Niederhorn. The simple mountain restaurant at the top is a pleasant resting place. In winter the area offers a small sledging and snowshoe slope.
The Niederhorn is reached by gondola from Beatenbucht on Lake Thun, with a journey time of around 25 minutes. Beatenbucht is accessible from Interlaken by PostBus or boat. By car, park at the valley station in Beatenbucht. Tickets: niederhorn.ch
