S-chanf is a small village in the Upper Engadine between Zuoz and Zernez, situated at the entrance to the Val Trupchun – the most important wildlife zone in the Swiss National Park. The Val Trupchun is the best destination for wildlife observation in the park; in autumn, red deer, ibex and chamois can be observed at close range.

The village of S-chanf itself has an intact Romansh centre with sgraffito houses and a quiet, barely touristy atmosphere. The proximity to the national park and the simple infrastructure make S-chanf a good base for multi-day national park tours. The Val Trupchun route is structured as a day walk and leads into the heart of the park.

S-chanf is on the Engadine line of the Rhaetian Railway and reachable from Chur in around 1.5 hours. By car, drive through the Upper Engadine on the cantonal road. Parking is available in the village; access to Val Trupchun is only possible on foot.
