Spiez sits on a peninsula on Lake Thun and is considered one of the most picturesque small towns in Switzerland – the medieval Spiez Castle stands directly above the vineyard and the lake, reflecting in the still water on calm days. The image of the castle, vines and mountain panorama is one of the most photographed scenes in the Bernese Oberland.

Spiez Castle is open as a museum and offers insights into its medieval history. Spiez harbour is a popular departure point for boat trips on Lake Thun. The vineyard around the castle is still actively cultivated – Spiez wine is well known in the region. In summer the lakeside promenade offers swimming spots, and restaurants invite guests to linger on waterside terraces.

Spiez is on the BLS railway line and reachable from Bern in around 30 minutes, from Interlaken in around 15 minutes. By car take the A6 motorway. Parking is available at the station and by the lake.
