Weggis lies on the northern shore of Lake Lucerne in the canton of Lucerne, directly at the foot of the Rigi, and is one of the mildest places in central Switzerland. The small town is known for its subtropical microclimate with palm trees, fig trees and magnolias – a remarkable contrast to the surrounding mountain world. The lakeside promenade and well-kept villa gardens give Weggis an elegant, peaceful character.
The Weggis–Rigi Kaltbad cable car serves the Rigi plateau in just a few minutes. Weggis is also the starting point for walks along the lakeshore and up to the Rigi. In summer, regular boats run from Weggis to Lucerne, Vitznau and Brunnen. The village attracts those seeking rest and tranquillity who want to combine Lucerne's infrastructure with a quieter setting.
Weggis is reachable by boat from Lucerne in around 45 minutes or by PostBus. By car, take the lakeshore road from Lucerne towards Küssnacht and Weggis. Parking is available in the village and by the lakeshore.
